Burger Burguesa, Denton, TX

Burger Burguesa is a new burger joint located at 214 E. Hickory St. in Denton. This area of Denton is turning into a trendy/hipsterish hangout. I've heard that there was quite a following for this place down in Dallas so I've been eager to try it out. Last week Bird and I stopped by - she ordered La Monumental while I had a Burguesa Double and some french fries.

The all beef patties are fresh, not frozen. Most of the burger accoutrement seem fresh as well.

La Monumental
Special Creamy Sauce
Avocado
Onion (withheld by request)
Tomato
Lettuce
Refried Beans
Crunchy Tostada
Ham
Chesse
3 ounce patty

Looking at that long list of toppings we imagined t
he burger to be huge, unable to fit in our mouths without straining the jawbone, but it was actually almost small (this was the single patty, not the double)...Robin ate the entire La Monumental, which means that it couldn't have been too monumental in size. Also, it was more sandwich-like than burger-like. The crunchy tostada did offer a welcome crunchy contrast to the smooth refried beans and avacado on the sandwhich, and the flavors did mesh well together. Robin thought she would be taking the ham slice off the burger sandwich, but it was very thin, and didn't seem to bother her usual aversion to pink pork. Overall a nice sandwich, but if you're craving a juicy burger that Americans are used to, this isn't the burger for you.

*Men, definitely order the double meat patty if you are hungry

Burguesa Double
Special Creamy Sauce
Lettuce
Tomato
Onion (withheld by request)
2 x 3 ounce patties
Fried egg (added by request)

The Burguesa Double was more of a traditional burger.
Juicy patty with fresh lettuce and tomato between a soft sesame seed bun. The addition of the fried egg is something I do in honor of pacific rim burgers. The burger is reminiscent of what you would get from one of the better burger chains. The special creamy sauce sort of overpowered all the other flavors of this burger. There is nothing spectacular to the taste or texture of the burger.

The fries had a dusting of spicy seasoning and were quite crunchy, which Bird prefers. As an added bonus each order came with a "Mexican Fortune Cookie". I was only slightly offended by the theft of my cultural identity. It was a fun little surprise regardless.

Atmosphere: 3/5 (clean, feels like a nice fast food joint)
Service: 5/5 (you order at the counter and they call your name when your food is ready, but the employees are SUPER friendly and came to our table to check on us)
Food: 2.5/5 (perfectly average)
